The Directorate of Civil Litigation (Government Attorney) performs the function of providing the Namibian Government with legal representation in civil litigation in all courts. The Government Attorney also represents civil servants in criminal cases that arose from the performance of their duties as government employees.
The Government Attorney is responsible for instituting proceedings to recover any money which is due to the Government from any institution or individuals, including its staff members, arising from contractual relations or as a result of costs awarded to the State in legal proceedings.
The Office of the Government Attorney is also in charge of conducting all convayancing work on behalf of the Namibian Government.
